There Will Always Be Exceptions

Though I am aware we shouldn’t judge people, and I don't 9.9/10 times, I feel as if I have a pretty valid reason. Working at Marshalls has presented me with a whole lot of different people, some nice, most…….well. But there is one type of person who will simultaneously make my blood boil and cause me to break out into a nervous sweat, and those are the middle aged women who choose to show up without a mask.

For the most part, when people walk up to my register I never know what type of person they are, nor do I pass any judgment until I actually talk to them and they show me who they are. However, when I see a Karen pull up without a mask, looking a lot like the last one, I just know that all chaos will eventually break loose. I often see my life flash before my eyes when they approach, I know that I have to ask them to put on a mask to keep myself healthy, but oh man, I don't dare ask them. But at the same time I just get all this pint up anger and want to lash out, there is no in between. Then I finally ask the dreaded question. “Ma’am could you please put on a mask? If you don’t have one I can offer you one”, and get the dreaded response, “Wearing a mask isn’t a law, it doesn’t work anyway because corona isn’t real and I shouldn’t have to give up my rights”.........here we go. I find it safe to say they are all the same person, and they are the only people I will truly judge harshly with no regret, because if they choose to be selfish I will too.
